FAMILY CLASS SPONSORSHIP

Sponsorship of the Spouses, Common-Low Partner, Conjugal partner and their dependent children

If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, and their dependent child (including adopted child) to become a permanent resident.

An application for Family Class sponsorship can be made if your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner, or dependent children live inside or outside Canada.

Both you and the sponsored persons must meet certain requirements.

·          You and the sponsored relative must sign a sponsorship agreement that commits you to provide financial support for your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner for three years from the date they become a permanent resident.

·          You must provide financial support for a dependent child for 10 years, or until the child turns 25, whichever comes first.

·          This agreement also states that the person becoming a permanent resident will make every effort to support themselves.

Sponsorship of Parents, Grandparents, Adopted children,

Can I sponsor my brother or sister?

If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, you can sponsor your relative under the Family Class program. For more information contact us.

For example, you and your sponsored relative must sign a sponsorship agreement committing you to provide financial support for your parents or grandparents for the period of 10 years from the time they become a permanent resident.

Dependent children under age of 22 do not have to sign this agreement. Quebec residents must sign an “undertaking” with the province of Quebec- a contract binding the sponsorship.

When you are sponsoring your parents or grandparents you must meet certain financial requirements.

Note: Sponsor cannot be in jail, or subject to a removal order, nor in receipt of social assistance or in default of any payments for the child support.

Admissibility requirements: Applicants for permanent residence must go through medical, criminal and background checks. An applicant with a criminal record may not be allowed to enter Canada. People who pose a risk to Canada’s security are also not allowed to enter Canada. An applicant may have to provide a certificate from police authorities in the home country. To find out about your case contac us.
